Before The Unbinding extinguished the city, Lucian lived by charm, sleight of hand, and quick bets in the bayou dens. But when the Pharaoh of the First Dawn rose and the Flayed Covenant carved through the quadrants, charm became worthless currency.

Lucian’s entire thieves' guild attempted an extraction convoy through the railyards of The City. It was an ambush. One by one, those who had raised him, taught him to slip unseen, and shared his campfire were slaughtered or bound into scripture by the Skin Saints. He survived only because the woman he loved shoved him into an empty freight car, locking the latch from the outside just as the needles found her.

Now, Lucian wanders the ruined rail lines alone, wrapped in a tattered crimson shroud torn from her coat. He wears his blue operational suit, cloth wraps around his boots and forearms, and grips a telescoping bo-staff. Every object he touches still thrums with explosive kinetic fire, but victory brings him no joy—only the hollow rattle of empty cards against shattered tracks. He fights not to reclaim his future, but to ensure that the debt owed for those left behind is paid in full.
